Joining us

Add your child to the waiting list.

We're oversubscribed in most sections most years, so register your interest as early as you can. There's no cost and no obligation.

Being honest about places: We’re a large and popular Group, and most sections are full. Places after Beavers are limited, and they can be hard to come by.

The single biggest thing that helps is parents getting involved. If you volunteer with the Group in some way, your child is prioritised for a place, so it’s well worth a conversation about how you might help.

The best place to start is to get in touch. Email join@63rdbristolscouts.org.uk with your child’s name and date of birth, and we’ll talk through the options with you.

What happens after you join the list

  1. We acknowledge your registration within a couple of weeks.
  2. When a space comes up in the right section, the section leader gets in touch to invite your child along. With Beavers especially, we try to start new starters in small groups together, so they settle in with familiar faces.
  3. Your child comes along to try things out. There’s no firm commitment to begin with. We don’t expect one until they’re ready to be invested as a member.
  4. Once they’re settled, usually after at least four weeks, we welcome them as a member with their Membership Award and ask you to set up subs.

Subs and costs

We’re continuing our current subs system this year. Most families pay an annual membership amount, set by The Scout Association, though some pay monthly or by another arrangement. Just let us know what works for you. Get in touch and we’ll talk through the current amount, and we have hardship support so cost isn’t a barrier.
