Scouts

Camps, expeditions and outdoor skills for older members, who help plan and run the programme themselves.

What a typical evening looks like

Scout Troop nights run for two hours, with patrols (small teams) taking on more of the planning. A typical term mixes practical skills, preparing for a camp or expedition, and getting outdoors whenever the weather and light allow. Camps and weekends away run through the year.

What Scouts do

  • Camps in the UK and trips further afield
  • Watersports, climbing, expeditions on foot and on bike
  • Real responsibility, from cooking dinner for the patrol to leading a hike
  • Work towards the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, the highest in the section

Meeting time and place

Scouts meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting at 7.30pm, at the Scout Hut, B&A Church or another nearby venue.

Uniform: Scouts wear a teal shirt and a 63rd Bristol scarf. Scarves are issued at investiture; shirts are available from the Scout Store.

What comes next

At 14, young people move on to Explorer Scouts, run at District level rather than by individual Groups. We’ll help your Scout find an Explorer Unit when the time comes.

Joining Scouts
